DVF Centenary

OUR 2012 NEWS UPDATE

It is good to say Hello once again to friends old and new who support our festival and to welcome all our competitors who work so hard to produce such high standards. We must not forget their teachers who foster their talents and parents who encourage them as well as ferrying them around! Without these people our festival couldn’t exist.

This year is a special year for us and we’re celebrating our centenary year! Yes, the festival has been taking place for 100 years! Think back to 1912 and imagine what the world was like at that time, It’s an amazing scene. Opportunities were made for people to display their talents at the festival all those years ago, just as they are today.

We hope you enjoy your time with us. There are lots to see and hear music, speech and drama and the art exhibition, which gives opportunities for a wide age range to display their pictures. If you have any useful comments to make or ideas for new classes then please share them with us. After all it is your festival!

The overall winners from the 2011 festival were, Lydia Georgio in the Speech and Drama section, winning the Harry Cutts Trophy; Harriet Gregory won The Mexborough Market Traders Trophy in the Art section; and Maxine Taylor in the Music section won the Millhouse Green Geoffrey Barlow Memorial Trophy. Congratulations to all of them.

Another competitor who deserves our congratulations is Lauren Sawden who was chosen by our festival to represent us at the North London Festival competing for the Emmanuel Piano Trophy.

The Yorkshire and Humberside Festival Championships took place on Saturday September 24th 2011 at the King’s Hall Winter Gardens, Ilkley. Our chosen competitors to represent the Don Valley Festival were Nathan Hirst for Speech and Drama and Ashley Garfitt for Music.

If you would like to be a patron then your annual £10 would go towards helping to finance the festival or if you would like to sponsor us and advertise your business then please contact Dorothy Weaver 01937581000.

Enjoy our centenary celebrations.
